Beth Scales

Beth Scales, Miss New York International 2007, is an avid advocate for visual health awareness. After being diagnosed with amblyopia, a brain disease that leaves her virtually blind in her left eye, at the age of ten; Beth has strived to educate adults and children alike about the importance of their visual health.

After graduating as high school valedictorian, Beth went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in History & Political Science in three years with two transfers and a 3.95 GPA.

Being involved in the public speaking arena for over seven years, Beth has been the keynote speaker at various events all over the country, such as the Women of Influence Conference as well as other conferences and seminars.

Having always been an advocate for community service, Beth founded “Be a S.T.A.R. (Be a Student Taking Action Radically)” to encourage youth to get involved in their communities; and Beth has been involved with various organizations over the past several years as she strives to make a difference. Some of the numerous organizations she has served include: the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Heart Association, the National Crime Prevention Council, the National Youth Network, the Head Start Program, as well as nursing homes, VA hospitals, and regional food banks. Most recently she traveled to Denver, Colorado to be a track advisor for an annual anti-violence conference held by Youth Crime Watch of America, at which Beth was one of five track leaders to help lead hundreds of students in round-table discussions and seminars. Currently, Beth serves as a youth group leader at Living Christ Church in Nyack, New York; and, in her attempt to advocate for visual health awareness, is serving the Association for the Visually Impaired.
